Hunting

Hunting is one of the most thrilling aspects of Among Vampires, filled with high-stakes decisions and a range of dangers lurking in the dark. Knowing how to hunt effectively can enhance your strength, earn you rewards, and help you navigate the deadly world of vampires with finesse. Here’s a guide on how to master the hunt and avoid its pitfalls.

1. Healing

You can’t hunt if your health is too low. In this case, you need to rest in your Lair from Hunt -> Lair

In your Lair, you can simply wait and heal yourself. Also you can feed from your prisoners that you charmed on your previous hunting trips.

2. Hunting Peasants: Feeding and Charming

Peasants are scattered throughout the world, and hunting them serves multiple purposes:

  • Feed from Corpses: After taking down a peasant, you can feed from their corpse to heal yourself. This keeps you in the fight longer, but make sure to do so quickly and move on.
  • Charm for Allies: Charm a peasant, and they’ll fight on your side. Charmed peasants can be valuable allies in skirmishes against inquisitors or other enemies. Just remember, if they survive, you can bring them back to your lair as a prisoner for future use.

3. Sacrificial Pentagram: A Bonus in Battle

Once your enemies are down, don’t let their bodies go to waste.

  • Casting the Pentagram: By clicking on the skull icon at the bottom-left corner, you can cast a sacrificial pentagram. Moving the bodies of your enemies into this ritual circle grants you bonus experience and gold—a perfect way to maximize your rewards from each hunt.
  • Strategic Advantage: Use the pentagram in hidden spots to avoid detection. This helps you gain rewards without attracting the attention of wandering ghosts.

4. Hiding Tracks to Avoid Ghosts

Leaving bodies scattered across your hunting grounds can come back to haunt you—literally.

  • Avoiding Ghosts: If dead bodies are left in open areas, ghosts will appear and begin to haunt you. Ghosts can be dangerous to deal with, especially in numbers, so make sure to hide your tracks by disposing of corpses in secretive places or by moving them into the sacrificial pentagram.

5. Beware of Inquisitors and Guard Towers

Not all enemies are simple prey. Inquisitors and guard towers pose unique threats:

  • Inquisitors: These skilled hunters will trap you with their magic, immobilizing you for deadly attacks. Facing them alone is risky, so it’s best to have allies or use hit-and-run tactics.
  • Guard Towers: Guard towers are a constant danger. They’ll fire arrows at you if you get too close, and lingering nearby will summon inquisitors to hunt you down. Approach with caution, or better yet, avoid them when possible.

6. The Challenge of Day and Night Cycles

In Among Vampires, day and night cycles are more than just a visual change—they can be life or death.

  • Surviving Daylight: The sun is deadly for vampires. If you linger in direct sunlight for too long, it will start to burn you. During the day, you’ll need to find and rest in shaded areas, like the shadows of trees or buildings, to avoid harm. This mechanic adds a level of strategy to your hunts as you navigate from one shady area to the next.
  • Hunting in the Shadows: Make use of the cover of night to hunt freely. Darkness provides a natural shield, allowing you to move stealthily and strike when enemies least expect it.

7. Beware of the Full Moon: Werewolves Among Peasants

The full moon brings a new danger to your hunts: some peasants will transform into werewolves, becoming much stronger and more dangerous.

  • Werewolf Transformations: When the full moon rises, ordinary peasants may suddenly transform, gaining heightened speed and attack power. Werewolves are formidable enemies, and facing one unprepared can be fatal. When hunting during a full moon, proceed with extreme caution and be ready to flee if a peasant changes form.

Final Tips for Effective Hunting

  • Use Shadows to Your Advantage: Stay out of the sun during the day, and use shadows to keep enemies at a distance or to rest and heal.
  • Plan Your Hunts: Carefully choose when and where to engage peasants and other enemies to maximize rewards while minimizing risks.
  • Stay on the Move: Don’t linger in one area for too long. Between inquisitors, guard towers, and the risks of leaving tracks, it’s best to hunt efficiently and keep moving.

With these strategies, you’ll be able to make the most of every hunt, avoid dangerous pitfalls, and become a feared predator in the world of Among Vampires. Happy hunting, and remember: the night belongs to you!
